Which e-invoicing format do you need?
Different countries mandate different XML schemas, and it helps to know your target before you convert:
- Turkey — e-Fatura (UBL-TR): invoices are exchanged as UBL 2.1 XML through the GİB system. Extracted invoice data must be mapped to UBL fields, usually by your e-invoice integrator or accounting software.
- EU — EN 16931 / Peppol BIS: the common European e-invoice standard used for public procurement across member states.
- Netherlands — factuur naar XML: Dutch businesses typically need UBL as well; most bookkeeping packages (Exact, Moneybird, e-Boekhouden) import UBL directly.
- Brazil — Nota Fiscal (NF-e): the fiscal XML is generated by the SEFAZ authorization flow. A PDF DANFE is only the printable representation; if you lost the XML, request it from the issuer — extraction from the PDF is a fallback for records, not a legal substitute.
- India — Tally import: Tally accepts XML for vouchers and ledgers. Extract the invoice data from PDF, then map it to Tally's envelope format before importing.
In every case the pattern is the same: the PDF holds the data, the authority or software defines the schema, and a converter bridges the first step — getting the data out of the PDF in a machine-readable form.
Converting a Europass CV from PDF
Older Europass PDFs had the CV's XML embedded inside the file; newer ones often don't. If your Europass platform asks for XML and you only have the PDF, extract the text content to XML first, then rebuild the profile in the official Europass editor — importing gets you 90% of the way instead of retyping everything.
